Situated in Central Europe and bordered by countries including Germany, Hungary, Slovakia, Slovenia, Italy, Switzerland, and Liechtenstein, the Republic of Austria recorded approximately US$222.5 billion in global exports in 2025.


This figure marks a solid 14.3% increase compared to export revenues of $194.7 billion in 2021. On a year-over-year basis, Austrian exports also rose by 7.8%, up from $206.4 billion in 2024.


Using the average exchange rate for 2025, Austria operates with the euro, which appreciated by 4.4% against the US dollar compared to the previous year. As a result, Austrian goods priced in euros became relatively more expensive for international buyers using US dollars.

Key Export Destinations

Recent country-level data indicates that 73.3% of Austria’s exports were absorbed by major trading partners, including Germany (29%), the United States (6.5%), Italy (6.5%), Switzerland (5.3%), Slovakia (4.2%), Poland (3.9%), the Czech Republic (3.7%), Hungary (3.6%), France (3.5%), the United Kingdom (2.7%), China (2.6%), and Slovenia (2.1%).


From a regional standpoint, Europe dominates Austria’s export landscape, accounting for 79.4% of total export value. Asia follows with 9.5%, while North America represents 8.3%.


Smaller shares were distributed to Africa (1.2%), Latin America (1.1%, excluding Mexico but including the Caribbean), and Oceania (0.5%), primarily Australia and New Zealand.


As a member of the European Union, Austria sends a significant portion of its exports—68.8%—to fellow EU countries, slightly higher than the previous year’s 68%.


With a population of approximately 9.2 million, Austria’s 2025 export value equates to about $24,200 per person, exceeding the 2024 average of $23,400.

Together, these top 10 export categories contributed 65.5% of Austria’s total export value.


Among them, gems and precious metals experienced the fastest growth, surging by 93.7% compared to 2024. Electrical machinery ranked second in growth with a 31.3% increase, followed by wood exports, which rose by 16.7%.


Pharmaceuticals were the only category to decline, recording a 9.1% drop year over year.
