These countries collectively accounted for 69.3% of total global coal imports, confirming Asia’s dominance in coal demand.

Asia was the largest coal-importing continent, responsible for $182.4 billion in purchases, which represented 83.1% of the global total.
·Europe followed, importing 11.6% of the world’s coal.
·Smaller import shares were attributed to:
·Latin America (2.9%, including the Caribbean but excluding Mexico)

Coal and similar solid fuels fall under the Harmonized Tariff System code 2701. About 66.4% of the coal imported globally in 2023 was bituminous coal, while coal briquettes and related fuels made up a negligible 0.06% of the total.
