Global exports of drugs and medicines reached US$560.2 billion in 2025, reflecting the continued growth of the pharmaceutical industry and rising international demand for healthcare products.
Compared with US$429.6 billion in 2021, worldwide exports of pharmaceutical products increased by 30.4% over the four-year period. On a year-over-year basis, export revenues climbed 13.5% from US$491.6 billion in 2024.
The world's leading pharmaceutical-exporting countries in 2025 were Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Ireland, and Belgium. Together, these five major suppliers accounted for 46.6% of total global drugs and medicines exports, underscoring their dominant position in international pharmaceutical trade.

Regional Breakdown of Pharmaceutical Exports
Europe remained the center of global pharmaceutical exports, generating US$456.3 billion in overseas sales, equivalent to 81.5% of worldwide exports in 2025.
Asian countries ranked second, contributing 8.9% of global pharmaceutical shipments, followed by North America with 8.2%.
Other regions represented relatively small shares of the market, including:
· Latin America (0.9%), excluding Mexico but including Caribbean nations
· Oceania (0.3%), primarily Australia and New Zealand
· Africa (0.2%)

· HS Code 3003 – Medicaments consisting of two or more mixed constituents, representing 4.1% of global pharmaceutical exports.

Several countries achieved impressive growth in pharmaceutical exports between 2024 and 2025. The strongest performers included:
· Netherlands: +42.3%
· Italy: +41.5%
· Spain: +29.5%
· Ireland: +27.8%
These countries significantly expanded their pharmaceutical export activities and strengthened their positions in global markets.
Countries with More Moderate Growth
While still posting gains, some major exporters experienced comparatively slower growth rates during the same period:
· United States: +2.2%
· Switzerland: +0.8%
Despite modest increases, both countries remained among the world's largest pharmaceutical exporters.
