In 2023, the global export market for beer reached an estimated value of US$17.2 billion.
This figure marks an average increase of 9.1% over five years, starting from 2019 when total worldwide beer exports stood at $15.8 billion. Between 2022 and 2023 alone, beer exports worldwide grew by 4.1%, rising from $16.5 billion to the latest total.
The leading beer-exporting nations—Mexico, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, and the United Kingdom—together accounted for 68.3% of all beer sold internationally by value in 2023.
Europe was the top continent in terms of beer export value, generating $9.1 billion or approximately 52.8% of global beer trade. North America followed with 36.7%, and Asia contributed around 7%. Smaller shares came from Latin America excluding Mexico (2%), Africa (1.3%), and Oceania (0.3%)—primarily driven by exports from Australia and New Zealand.
For classification, beer made from malt is identified under the Harmonized Tariff System with the 4-digit code 2203.

The most notable growth in beer exports from 2022 to 2023 came from mainland China (up 38.1%), Italy (up 18.4%), Czech Republic (up 16.5%), and Belgium (up 9.7%). In contrast, some key exporters reported declines, including the USA (-42.9%), Poland (-25.7%), Denmark (-11.3%), and the UK (-4%).
