In 2025, Ireland's imports totaled US$160.6 billion, reflecting strong domestic demand for goods from global markets.

This represents a notable 30.9% increase compared to 2021, when Ireland's imports stood at US$122.7 billion. On a year-over-year basis, the value of Ireland's imports rose by 11.1%, up from US$144.6 billion in 2024.

Based on average exchange rates for 2025, Ireland uses the euro, which appreciated by 4.4% against the US dollar compared to the previous year. This stronger currency made Ireland's imports relatively less expensive when priced in US dollars.

Domestically, Ireland's inflation rate averaged 1.908% in 2025, up from 1.323% in 2024. Meanwhile, Ireland's imports accounted for approximately 0.7% of total global imports, which were estimated at US$24.259 trillion.

Among the most valuable products within Ireland's imports were aircraft and spacecraft, packaged medicines, blood fractions such as antisera, computers and related components, automobiles, integrated circuits, refined petroleum oils, mobile phones, and chemical compounds like heterocyclics and nucleic acids. Together, these top items represented about 48% of total import spending.

Ireland's Key Suppliers

According to the latest country-level data, about 79.7% of Ireland's imports were supplied by major trading partners, including the United Kingdom (15.8%), the United States (14.8%), Germany (11.9%), France (8.5%), China (7.3%), the Netherlands (6.5%), Belgium (3.8%), Italy (3.1%), Israel (2.34%), Taiwan (2.33%), Switzerland (1.7%), and Spain (1.6%).

From a regional perspective, European countries accounted for 60.1% of Ireland's imports, making Europe the largest source region. Asia contributed 20.9%, while North America supplied 17.4%.

As a member of the European Union, Ireland conducts a significant portion of its trade within the bloc. However, EU countries accounted for 41.8% of Ireland's imports, a relatively lower share due to the substantial volume supplied by the United Kingdom, which is no longer part of the EU.

Smaller shares of Ireland's imports came from Africa (0.78%), Latin America (0.77%), and Oceania (0.1%), led by Australia and New Zealand.

With a population of approximately 5.5 million people, the total value of Ireland's imports in 2025 translates to about US$29,200 per capita, up from roughly US$26,300 in 2024.
