In 2022, global exports of peanuts (also known as groundnuts) were valued at a total of US$3.84 billion. By value, the top five exporters of peanuts in 2022 were India, the United States, Brazil, the Netherlands, and China. Together, these countries accounted for approximately 49.9% of the world's exported peanuts in 2022.
In 2022, Latin America (excluding Mexico but including the Caribbean) led in peanut exports, with shipments valued at $1.21 billion, or 31.6% of the global total. On the other hand, Vietnam saw a significant decline of -91.5%, followed by Myanmar (down -57.6%), Israel (down -21.5%), Belgium (down -21.3%), and the Netherlands (down -10.4%).

Prices and Tariff Codes
In 2022, the average unit price paid by importers for in-shell peanuts was $1,233 per ton, a 13.4% increase from the 2021 average of $1,087 per ton. Shelled peanuts commanded a higher unit price, averaging $1,254 per ton in 2022, up 2.8% from $1,220 per ton in 2021. The higher price for shelled peanuts is partly due to labor and processing costs.
For research purposes, the Harmonized Tariff System codes for peanuts are 120241 for in-shell peanuts and 120242 for shelled peanuts. Note that peanuts are classified under oil seeds and are sometimes referred to as groundnuts. In 2022, 92.4% of peanuts exported worldwide by value were shelled, while the remaining 7.6% were in-shell.
