In 2023, Vietnam's beverage imports of sweetened carbonated beverages reached a significant volume. Vietnam imported a total of 325,400 tons of sweetened carbonated beverages valued at $369.4 million, an increase of 46.9% (+103,800 tons) and 56.2% (+$132.9 million) from 2022. Based on the results for that year, Vietnam ranks first in Asia and 11th in the world among soda - purchasing countries. The country's beverage imports of sweetened carbonated beverages will grow at an average annual rate of 42.3% in volume and 51.4% in value over the 2019 - 2023 period.


The main supplier of sweet carbonated beverages to Vietnam is its largest regional producer, Thailand, which accounts for 97.2% (316,200 tons) of Vietnam's beverage imports of these products in 2023. In terms of exports of these products to Vietnam, China comes in second place, accounting for 0.9% (2.8 kilotonnes). In 2023, Vietnam's purchases of sweetened carbonated beverages from Thailand increased by 51.9% (+108.1 kilotonnes) compared to 2022. Meanwhile, imports of these products from Australia decreased (-95.5% or -3.9 kilotons).


Vietnam's main exporter of sweet carbonated beverages by value was Thailand, which supplied Vietnam with products worth USD 359 million in 2023 (97.2% of the country's beverage imports). China (0.9%) was also one of the largest exporters to the country's market by the end of the year. 


In 2023, Vietnam purchased 61.6% more sweetened carbonated beverages from Thailand (+$136.8 million) and 78.9% more sweetened carbonated beverages from South Korea (+$0.7 million) than in 2022. Meanwhile, imports of these products from Australia decreased (-95.2% or $4.1 million).


In 2023, the average import price of sweet carbonated beverages in Vietnam rises by 1.6% to US$1,086 per ton, with the most expensive products coming from Australia, China and South Korea.


As for the larger Vietnamese beverage market, in 2024, the leading importers in Vietnam are CÔNG TY TRÁCH NHIỆM HỮU HẠN NƯỚC GIẢI KHÁT COCA COLA VIỆT NAM, CÔNG TY TNHH NƯCỚ GIẢI KHÁT SUNTORY PEPSICO VIỆT NAM and CÔNG TY TNHH DENEAST VIỆT NAM, accounting for 19.44%, 12.07% and 7.29% of Vietnam's beverage imports in 2024, respectively.


As for the largest supplier of imports to Vietnam in 2024, Singapore ranked first, supplying 35.18% of Vietnam's total beverage imports in 2024. In second place is China, supplying 21.29% of beverages to Vietnam. Thailand occupies the third place with a percentage of 7.03%.
