It was formed in 2001 through the merger of Abbott GmbH, Knoll GmbH and Knoll Deutschland GmbH. The company has a registered office located in Wiesbaden, Hesse, Germany.<br>The Wiesbaden facility includes the medical-scientific, marketing and sales departments, as well as the logistics centre for nutritionals. Other production operations are located at the facility in Ludwigshafen (Rhineland-Palatinate). This facility consists of the centre of finished medicaments and is one of the largest pharmaceutical manufacturing plants of the American-based Abbott Labs. It is also home to Abbott Labs' European clinical trials, high-tech drug production, and R&D operations.<br>The company specializes in producing biopharmaceuticals used to treat rheumatoid arthritis and virostatic agents used in HIV/AIDS management and neonatology. As one of the leading manufacturers of healthcare products, it also offers nutritional products as well as hospital products such as anesthesia, macrolides, cephalosporins, glycopeptides, catheters (Abbocath-T), reciprocable obturators for catheter assembly, emergency medical products (Dial-A-Flo) and disposable liner systems (Receptal).<br>It aims to be the world's premier health care company, by meeting the growing needs of modern medicine and fight emerging new diseases. The company works in partnership with Deutsche Rheuma-Liga Bundesverband e.V., Deutsche Vereinigung Morbus Bechterew e.V. (DVMB), EFCNI - European Foundation for the Care of Newborn, Kinder-Rheumastiftung, Michael Stich Stiftung and Rheuma-Liga Hessen e.V.<br>The company is a member of AdvaMed (Advanced Medical Technology Association), DNUG (Deutsche Notes User Group ), INTA, ZEW, BVMed, and the Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care International (AAALAC).
