In 2025, the Russian Federation imported goods worth approximately US$182 billion from global markets. The overall value of Russia's imports highlights the country's continued demand for machinery, vehicles, pharmaceuticals, and industrial materials despite changing global trade conditions.

Compared with 2021, when Russia's imports totaled $293.5 billion, the 2025 figure reflects a sharp decline of 38% over the five-year period.

On a year-over-year basis, total spending on Russia's imports also fell by 13.9%, down from $211.3 billion in 2024.

Among Russia's imports, the highest-value products included passenger vehicles, packaged pharmaceutical medicines, blood fractions and antisera, smartphones and mobile devices, as well as computers and optical readers. Together, these major imported goods represented 16.8% of Russia's total import expenditures in 2025, showing the broad diversity of Russia's imports across multiple sectors.

Based on the average exchange rate in 2025, the Russian ruble weakened by 11.2% against the US dollar compared to 2024. Consequently, Russia's imports became relatively more expensive for local buyers because imported products priced in US dollars required more rubles to purchase.

Russia also recorded an average inflation rate of 9.265% in 2025, slightly above the 8.444% inflation rate registered in 2024.

8. Japan: 3.1%

9. Kazakhstan: 2.4%

10. Türkiye: 2.2%

11. Poland: 2%

12. Vietnam: 1.7%

Looking at Russia's imports from a regional perspective, Asian countries supplied 47% of total imported goods by value, while European trading partners accounted for 42.5%. North America contributed another 6.7% to Russia's imports.

Smaller shares of Russia's imports came from Latin America excluding Mexico but including the Caribbean (2.5%), Africa (1%), and Oceania (0.3%), mainly Australia and New Zealand.

With a population of approximately 145.6 million people, Russia's imports in 2025 translated into roughly $1,250 worth of imported goods per capita. This amount was lower than the estimated $1,400 per person recorded in 2024.
