In 2024, global banana imports—including plantains—were valued at approximately US$17.3 billion.
This marks a 4.9% increase in import value compared to 2020, when worldwide banana imports stood at $16.5 billion. However, from 2023 to 2024, spending on imported bananas slightly declined by -1.5%, dropping from $17.5 billion.
The top five countries that imported the most bananas in terms of dollar value were the United States, Germany, Japan, the Netherlands, and mainland China. These major importers collectively accounted for 41.7% of global banana imports in 2024.

When broken down by continent, Europe emerged as the leading region for banana imports, spending $8.85 billion and representing 51.3% of the global total. Following Europe:
