In 2024, global cork exports generated around US$2.1 billion in sales.
Compared with 2020, when the worldwide figure was about $1.9 billion, the cork trade has expanded by 10.3% over five years. However, on a year-to-year basis, exports declined by -8.8%, down from $2.3 billion in 2023.
Cork, an elastic, lightweight, and fire-resistant material made from bark tissue, is widely used in wine stoppers, flooring, wall tiles, bulletin boards, and even aerospace heat shielding.
The top three global suppliers—Portugal, Spain, and France—accounted for 82.8% of international cork exports in 2024, showing a highly concentrated market.
Cork Exports by Continent
·Europe led overwhelmingly with $1.9 billion worth of cork shipments, or 91.1% of the global total.
·Asia followed with 4.1%, ahead of Africa (1.8%).
·Minor contributions came from North America (1.6%), Latin America (1.3%) excluding Mexico but including the Caribbean, and Oceania (0.1%) mostly from Australia.
For classification, cork and cork-made items fall under the 2-digit HS code 45.
