Pickles, whether sweet, sour, spicy or dill-flavored, remain one of the most widely consumed preserved foods around the world. In 2025, global exports of prepared cucumbers and gherkins generated approximately US$1 billion in international sales.
Compared with five years earlier, the export value of pickles increased by 36.5% from 2021, when worldwide shipments were valued at around $860 million.
On a year-over-year basis, global pickle exports expanded by 7.7% compared with 2024, when international sales reached $962.6 million.
The leading exporters of pickles in 2025 were Germany, India, Türkiye, the United States and the Netherlands. Together, these five major suppliers contributed nearly three-quarters (74%) of global pickle export value, demonstrating the strong market position of these countries in the international pickle trade.
From a regional perspective, Asian exporters recorded the highest export value, shipping $466.1 million worth of pickles, which represented 45% of worldwide exports. European suppliers ranked closely behind with 43.1%, while North American exporters accounted for another 10.9% of global shipments.
Smaller portions of global pickle exports came from suppliers in Africa (0.8%), Oceania (0.14%) — mainly Australia and New Zealand — and Latin America (0.13%), excluding Mexico but including Caribbean markets.
For trade classification purposes, pickles are categorized under the 6-digit Harmonized Tariff System (HTS) code 200110, covering cucumbers and gherkins preserved or prepared with vinegar or acetic acid.
