Global ginger exports reached US$1.48 billion in 2024, marking a 6% increase from 2020's total of $1.4 billion and a 7.4% rise compared with $1.38 billion recorded in 2023.
Worldwide exports of ground or crushed ginger amounted to $169.2 million in 2024, representing a 54.9% surge since 2020 and a further 13.4% year-over-year gain from 2023 to 2024.
By comparison, exports of raw, unprocessed ginger were significantly higher, totaling $1.31 billion in 2024. That figure reflects a 1.9% increase over the five-year period beginning in 2020 and a 6.7% improvement from 2023.
The world's five largest exporters of processed (crushed or ground) ginger—mainland China, Saudi Arabia, India, Germany, and the Netherlands—together accounted for 73% of global sales of processed ginger.
For raw ginger, mainland China, the Netherlands, Peru, Thailand, and India ranked as the top five suppliers, collectively responsible for 82.7% of worldwide unprocessed ginger shipments in 2024.
Both categories show that ginger exports are dominated by a relatively concentrated group of major suppliers.
For tariff classification, HTS code 091012 refers to crushed or ground ginger, while HTS code 091011 applies to non-crushed, non-ground ginger.
