In 2024, Romania shipped goods worth US$100.4 billion to international markets, representing a 41.3% increase compared with US$71 billion in exports recorded five years earlier in 2020.
On a year-over-year basis, however, Romania's export performance softened slightly. Total export value edged down by 0.3%, compared with US$100.6 billion in 2023.
Romania's export revenues remain highly concentrated among a limited number of buyers. The country's six most important trading partners—Germany, Italy, France, Hungary, Bulgaria, and Poland—together accounted for 50.2% of Romania's total export earnings in 2024.
From a geographic perspective, Europe continues to dominate Romania's export structure, absorbing 84.3% of total export value. Importers in Asia ranked second, purchasing 9.7% of Romanian exports.
Romania officially joined the European Union on January 1, 2007, although it continues to use its own national currency. Trade ties within the EU remain especially strong, with EU member states purchasing 71.8% of Romania's exports in 2024.
