Located in West Africa and bordered by Benin, Niger, Chad, and Cameroon, the Federal Republic of Nigeria exported goods worth approximately US$52.7 billion worldwide in 2025. Nigeria's export sector continues to play a critical role in the country's economy, particularly through its energy and natural resource industries.

Compared with 2021, when export revenues totaled $47.6 billion, the value of Nigerian shipments increased by 10.8% over the five-year period. However, on a year-over-year basis, Nigeria's export earnings slipped by -2% from $53.8 billion recorded in 2024.

According to 2025 exchange rate averages, the Nigerian naira appreciated by 6.4% against the US dollar compared to the previous year. A stronger naira made Nigeria's export products relatively more expensive for overseas buyers trading in US dollars.

Crude petroleum remains the backbone of Nigeria's export economy, accounting for roughly three-quarters of all export revenues. This highlights the highly concentrated structure of Nigeria's export portfolio, although the country also maintains strong positions in agricultural and mineral commodities such as cocoa beans and oil seeds.
