Global banana exports reached an estimated US$16.7 billion in 2025, reflecting strong international demand for one of the world's most widely consumed fruits.
Compared with 2021, when worldwide banana shipments were valued at $13.4 billion, total export revenues increased by 24.1% over the five-year period. On a year-over-year basis, global banana exports also posted solid growth, rising 11.8% from $14.9 billion in 2024.
The world’s five largest banana exporters—Ecuador, the Philippines, Colombia, Guatemala, and Costa Rica—together accounted for nearly 59% of total global banana export sales in 2025, highlighting the dominance of a few major producing nations in the international market.
From a regional perspective, Latin America excluding Mexico but including Caribbean countries generated the largest share of banana exports, shipping products worth approximately $9 billion or 54.2% of worldwide banana trade. European exporters contributed 18.3% of global banana export value, while Asian countries represented 18.1%.
Smaller portions came from North America (5.1%), Africa (4.6%), and Oceania (0.003%), led mainly by Australia and New Caledonia.
For customs and trade classification purposes, bananas and plantains are categorized under the 4-digit Harmonized Tariff System (HTS) code 0803.

The following countries generated the highest export revenues from bananas during 2025:
1.Ecuador — US$4.3 billion (25.6% of global banana exports)
2.Philippines — $1.7 billion (10.1%)
3.Colombia — $1.5 billion (9.2%)
4.Guatemala — $1.3 billion (7.6%)
5.Costa Rica — $1.1 billion (6.5%)
6.Netherlands — $927.7 million (5.6%)
7.Belgium — $919.1 million (5.5%)
8.United States — $577.2 million (3.5%)
9.India — $499.1 million (3%)
10.Vietnam — $418.7 million (2.5%)
11.Germany — $309.4 million (1.9%)
12.Cameroon — $283.9 million (1.7%)
13.Mexico — $275.2 million (1.6%)
14.Honduras — $274.2 million (1.6%)
15.France — $231.7 million (1.4%)
Combined, these 15 countries supplied 87.2% of all bananas exported worldwide in 2025.
Among the leading exporters, Cameroon recorded the fastest year-over-year growth with a remarkable 369.3% increase in banana exports from 2024 to 2025. India followed with a 38.7% rise, while the Philippines and France achieved gains of 36.3% and 30.7%, respectively.
Costa Rica was the only major exporter to post a decline, with banana export revenues decreasing by -10.6% year over year.
