Global onion exports generated approximately US$4.13 billion in international sales during 2025.
Compared with US$4.04 billion in 2021, worldwide onion exports increased by 2.2% over the five-year period. However, export value declined on a year-over-year basis, falling 19% from US$5.1 billion in 2024.
The international onion trade is relatively concentrated among a small group of leading suppliers. The Netherlands, mainland China, India, Mexico, and the United States ranked as the five largest onion exporters in 2025. Together, these major exporters accounted for 61.3% of global onion export value.

European exporters generated the highest export revenue from onions in 2025, with shipments valued at US$1.73 billion, representing 41.8% of worldwide onion exports.
