In 2024, the total global export value of paper products reached approximately $190.5 billion, based on data compiled from international trade flows.
This figure reflects a 19.4% increase compared to 2020, when global exports of paper were valued at around $159.5 billion. However, from 2023 to 2024, growth was modest, with paper exports edging up by only 0.8%, following the $188.9 billion recorded the previous year.
The top five exporters in the global paper market for 2024 were mainland China, Germany, the United States, Sweden, and Italy. Collectively, these countries accounted for 44.6% of total global paper exports.
From a regional standpoint, Europe dominated the export market, shipping approximately $100.3 billion worth of paper products, which made up 52.7% of the total. Asia followed with 29.8%, and North America contributed 13.4%. The remaining market share came from Latin America (2.8%), Africa (0.9%), and Oceania (0.5%), with Australia and New Zealand leading in the latter region.
Note: Paper and related items such as paperboard and pulp-based packaging fall under the Harmonized Tariff System (HTS) code 48.
