Global spending on imported wine reached US$38.99 billion in 2025. Compared with 2021, when worldwide wine imports were valued at $41.4 billion, the market contracted by 5.8% over the five-year period.


Compared with 2024, global wine import expenditure remained almost unchanged, slipping by just 0.2% from $38.96 billion.


The United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Canada, and Japan remained the world's five largest wine import markets in 2025. Together, these countries accounted for 46.3% of total global wine import value.


From a regional perspective, Europe represented the largest importing market, purchasing $20.82 billion, or 53.5% of total global wine imports. North America ranked second with a 22.6% share, followed by Asia at 16.8%. The remaining imports were distributed across Latin America (3.2%), Oceania (2.1%), and Africa (1.8%).

Top 15 Wine Importers by Country

The following countries recorded the highest import values for wine in 2025:

1. United States: US$6.5 billion (16.8%)

2. United Kingdom: US$4.9 billion (12.6%)

3. Germany: US$3 billion (7.7%)

4. Canada: US$1.9 billion (4.9%)

5. Japan: US$1.7 billion (4.3%)

6. Netherlands: US$1.6 billion (4%)

7. Mainland China: US$1.42 billion (3.6%)

8. Switzerland: US$1.35 billion (3.5%)

9. Belgium: US$1.31 billion (3.4%)

10. France: US$1 billion (2.6%)

11. Sweden: US$886.1 million (2.3%)

12. Hong Kong: US$838.2 million (2.2%)

13. Denmark: US$817.2 million (2.1%)

14. Russia: US$809.1 million (2.1%)

15. Singapore: US$715.1 million (1.8%)

Collectively, these 15 leading import markets represented 73.9% of worldwide wine imports in 2025.


Among the major importers, Germany posted the strongest year-over-year growth with a 10.1% increase, followed by Sweden (+8%), Switzerland (+5.4%), and Belgium (+4.5%).


On the other hand, import demand weakened in several key markets. Mainland China recorded the sharpest decline at -10.9%, followed by the United States (-8%), Canada (-4.5%), and Russia (-3.9%).
