Recent data released by the U.S. Departments of Agriculture and Commerce show that U.S. pork exports continued to grow strongly during the first two months of 2024. Compared to the same period last year, production increased 10 per cent to 502,585 tonnes and value increased 10 per cent to $1.37 billion.

As in all of 2023, Mexico was the largest destination for U.S. pork in January and February, totalling 196,452 tonnes valued at nearly $397 million, up 12 per cent and 15 per cent from the same period in 2023, respectively.

According to the National Pork Producers Council, the average value of hog exports per head of market hogs was $61.45, which is the price received by producers in January and February and is up 4 percent from the same period in 2023. Exports accounted for 25 per cent of total production, up 1.7 per cent from the same month a year ago.
