In 2024, Thailand purchased goods from abroad valued at US$310.2 billion.
This figure marks a 48.7% increase compared to the $208.6 billion recorded in 2020.
On a year-over-year basis, Thailand's import bill rose by 6.2%, up from $292.1 billion in 2023.
Thai imports in 2024 accounted for about 1.3% of the world's total imports, which reached $24.1 trillion. That share was slightly lower than the 1.4% recorded in 2023.
From a currency perspective, the Thai baht depreciated by -1.4% against the US dollar in 2024 compared with 2023. This weaker exchange rate made imported goods priced in US dollars more expensive when converted into baht.
Leading Suppliers of Thailand's Imports
Recent trade statistics indicate that 74.3% of Thailand's imports were sourced from just a dozen countries. The largest contributors were:
1. China (26.2%)
2. Japan (9.3%)
3. Taiwan (6.7%)
4. United States (6.4%)
5. United Arab Emirates (5.6%)
6. Malaysia (4.5%)
7. South Korea (3%)
8. Vietnam (2.97%)

By continent, Asian exporters dominated with 76.8% of Thailand's purchases. Meanwhile, Europe and North America each supplied 7.2% of total imports. Smaller portions came from Oceania (2.4%), Latin America (2.1%) excluding Mexico, and Africa (1.6%).
With a population of 70.3 million people, Thailand's 2024 import spending equals roughly $4,400 per person, an increase from $4,150 in 2023.

Together, these ten categories accounted for 73.9% of Thailand's total imports in 2024.
The strongest growth came from:
·Gems & precious metals (+58.9%), boosted by higher gold imports
·Machinery including computers (+17.2%)
·Electrical machinery & equipment (+11.3%)
·The biggest drop was seen in vehicles (-26.6%).
At a more detailed HS 4-digit level, Thailand's top imports were:
