Global spending on imported diamonds totaled US$68.2 billion in 2025.
Compared with 2021, when worldwide diamond imports were valued at US$120 billion, total import value declined by 43.2% over the five-year period.
On a year-over-year basis, international diamond purchases dropped by 19.8%, falling from US$85 billion in 2024.
The world's five largest diamond import markets in 2025 were India, Hong Kong, the United Arab Emirates, the United States, and Belgium. Together, these leading buyers accounted for 75.8% of global diamond import value.
From a regional perspective, Asia remained the dominant destination for imported diamonds, purchasing US$48.1 billion, equivalent to 70.6% of worldwide imports. Europe ranked second with 14.7%, followed by North America at 12%. The remaining imports were distributed across Africa (2.3%), Oceania (0.3%), and Latin America (0.1%) excluding Mexico but including the Caribbean.
For trade classification purposes, the 4-digit Harmonized System (HS) code for non-mounted and unset diamonds is 7102.

Diamond Imports by Country
The following countries recorded the highest import values for diamonds in 2025.
1.India: US$16.8 billion (24.6%)
2.Hong Kong: US$11.9 billion (17.5%)
3.United Arab Emirates: US$10.2 billion (15%)
4.United States: US$7.5 billion (11.1%)
5.Belgium: US$5.3 billion (7.8%)
6.Mainland China: US$3.3 billion (4.9%)
7.Israel: US$2.7 billion (3.9%)
8.Switzerland: US$1.6 billion (2.4%)
9.Thailand: US$1.5 billion (2.1%)
10.United Kingdom: US$1.2 billion (1.7%)
11.Botswana: US$1.1 billion (1.6%)
12.France: US$783.7 million (1.1%)
13.Italy: US$659.6 million (1%)
14.Japan: US$521.5 million (0.8%)
15.Canada: US$466.6 million (0.7%)
Combined, these 15 countries represented 96% of total global diamond imports by value in 2025.
Among the leading import markets, Canada recorded the fastest annual growth with a 123.3% increase, followed by the United Kingdom, where imports rose by 12%.
Meanwhile, several major markets experienced declining import values. The United States posted the sharpest decrease at -51%, followed by the United Arab Emirates (-30.2%), France (-19.2%), and Botswana (-18.2%).
