In 2024, countries around the world collectively spent approximately US$7.33 billion on tea imports.
This reflects a 6% increase in total tea import value compared to 2020, when global tea purchases stood at $6.92 billion. On a yearly basis, the cost of imported tea rose by 3.1%, climbing from $7.11 billion in 2023.
Tea, traded under the Harmonized Tariff System code 0902, continues to be a significant commodity in the Import & Export Data landscape.
In terms of market value, the five largest importers of tea in 2024 were Pakistan, the United States, the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates, and Russia. Together, these nations accounted for 31.5% of the global tea import market.
By type, black tea dominated the import volume, making up 74.7% of all tea traded internationally. Meanwhile, green tea comprised 25.3%, a modest increase from 23.3% the year before.
Regionally, Asian countries led global demand, purchasing $3.2 billion worth of imported tea—representing 43.8% of total imports in 2024.

·Africa received 15.2% of imported tea
·North America accounted for 10.1%
·Oceania, led by Australia and New Zealand, held 2%
·Latin America (excluding Mexico, but including the Caribbean) accounted for just 1.4%
