Burundi's exports to the world in 2022 are valued at $188.9 million. Compared to 2021, Burundi's exports increased by 66.9% year-on-year to $113.2 million.

Gemstones and Precious Metals is the fastest growing of the top ten export categories, growing by 470,373% from 2021 to 2022. This product category is driven by increased international revenues from Burundi's gold exports. The second highest growth in Burundi's export sales was in the mineral fuels, including petroleum products category, which grew by 120.8%, with refined petroleum leading the way. Burundi's exports of milling products, malt and starch grew the third fastest, by 82.7%.

The only decline in Burundi's top 10 export categories was in ores, slag and ash, down -78.1% year-on-year.

According to the more refined HTS code, unwrought gold became Burundi's most valuable export, accounting for 27.4% of the African country's total exports in 2022. In second place is coffee (22.5%), followed by tea including flavored tea (13.3%). percent), cigarettes and cigars (5.1 percent), malt beer (5.7 percent), wheat or maslin flour (4.8 percent), processed petroleum (3 percent), plated or coated products made from flat or non-alloy steel (2.4 percent), glass containers including bottles and jars (also 2.4 percent), and then plastic packaging items including lids and bottle caps (2.3 percent).
