In 2023, global vitamin exports totaled an impressive $4.85 billion, marking a notable increase from the $4 billion recorded five years earlier in 2019. This reflects an average growth rate of 21.5% over the past five years.
Compared to 2022, the value of vitamin exports saw a 3% rise, from $4.7 billion to the 2023 figure of $4.85 billion.
The top five vitamin-exporting countries in 2023—Germany, the United States, Hong Kong, the Netherlands, and India—accounted for nearly 44% of global vitamin exports.
When broken down by region, Europe led the way in vitamin exports, contributing $2.6 billion or 52.7% of the global total. Asia followed with a share of 21.9%, and North America supplied 16.9% of global vitamin exports.
Other regions contributed smaller shares, including Oceania (primarily Australia) at 5.2%, Latin America (excluding Mexico but including the Caribbean) at 3.1%, and Africa at just 0.2%.
On the import side, the top five vitamin-importing nations in 2023 were China, the United States, Germany, Russia, and Hong Kong. Together, these countries made up 29.7% of the world's vitamin imports.
Interestingly, the share of global vitamin exports is more concentrated (43.8%) compared to imports (29.7%), which can be attributed to the higher number of importing countries and territories—211 importers versus 125 exporters.
For reference, the 6-digit Harmonized Tariff System (HTS) code for both imported and exported vitamins is 300450, which includes medicaments with provitamins and vitamins, as well as their natural derivatives and concentrates.
