The car market is recovering
In June, for the first time, more pure electric cars were registered in the EU than diesel cars. Since the start of the year, 5.4 million new cars have been put on the road, but this is a fifth fewer than before the new crown crisis. Car sales in the EU continue to recover.
ACEA, the European Manufacturers' Association in Brussels, announced that new registrations rose by 17.8% to one million units in June compared to the same month last year.
This was the eleventh consecutive month of sales growth. Electric vehicles were again the fastest growing, with a market share of 15.1%, overtaking diesel cars (13.4%) for the first time.
Growing demand for electric cars
In terms of popularity, therefore, purely battery-driven cars are in third place behind gasoline engines (36.3% share) and hybrids (24.3% for hybrids).
So far this year, 5.4 million new cars have been put on the road in the EU, up 17.9% on the same period last year. However, the number of new registrations is still a fifth lower than before the new crown crisis. Sales figures are up in almost all EU countries.
