Indonesia has appointed its state-owned food procurement companies Bulog and IDFood to purchase 120,000 tons of meat from Brazil and India this year, the National Food Agency (NFA) said on Thursday.

Bulog was given a quota to import 100,000 tons of buffalo meat from India, while IDFood was given a quota to import 20,000 tons of beef from Brazil, NFA head Arief Prasetyo Adi told reporters.

Bulog Chief Executive Officer Bayu Krisnamurthi said they will soon go out to tender and aim to deliver the meat before the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan in mid-March.

"We are trying to get them (to arrive before Ramadan) to beef up our stocks," Bayu said.

NFA chief Arif said the meat import quota for Bulog and IDFood was largely unchanged from last year.
